Michael Fischer (born March 13, 1969 in Leipzig ) is a German painter and sculptor .

Life

Michael Fischer, artist name Michael Fischer-Art, did an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and painter, worked as a caretaker and nurse in psychiatry before he did his Abitur after the fall of the Wall in 1992 and from 1992 to 1997 at the College of Graphics and Book Art in Graphics -Class of Professor Rolf Münzner in Leipzig and graduated. In his first year of study, Fischer-Art received the art prize “Young artists see their city” (jury member, among others, Horst Antes), which was awarded by the College of Graphics and Book Art and the property speculator Jürgen Schneider, who was later convicted of fraud .

In 2004 Fischer-Art was a member of the 12th Federal Assembly .

Based on socialist realism , Fischer-Art describes his work as belonging to "market economy realism". In his visual language he uses rich colors, large areas, simple structures and comic-like "muppets", which creates a high recognition value.

In terms of content, Fischer-Arts works are socially critical. In his work that is politically and socially critical, he deals with current events such as the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 , accidents such as the sinking of the Kursk , but also the addiction to luxury and labels such as Louis Vuitton . In addition, Fischer-Art feels connected to the history of his hometown Leipzig. The Prinzen , Bach and Goethe appear in some of his Leipzig wall paintings .

Fischer-Art created many works in public spaces. In 1998 he designed the new lecture hall building of the TU Dresden with a 2400 square meter mural. In 2000 he built a 100 meter long fountain in downtown Frankfurt (Oder) , in which eight sculptures up to 6 meters high spit water. Further "art in building" projects by Fischer-Art are the Fischer-Art-Haus in Sebnitz (2001), the stairwell and inner courtyard design of the HTWK in Leipzig, Wiener-Bau, Wächterstraße 13 (2001) and the Fischer-Art- House in Leipzig (2004) on Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse .

Fischer-Art took part in the Buddy Bear Berlin Show in 2001/02 . The bear stood in the Neuer Kranzler Eck ( Kurfürstendamm ) for two years before it was auctioned off for the benefit of children in need. In 2005 he created a winged altar for the village church of Nepperwitz . From June 7, 2006, on the occasion of the World Cup, he covered the Brühl prefabricated buildings, former residential buildings on Tröndlin-Ring, which were about to be demolished, with tarpaulins of more than 13,000 square meters. In his work of art entitled “The Three Towers” ​​he showed the Leipzig eleven: a selection of important personalities from the past and present of Leipzig - from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to Mayor Burkhard Jung .

As an artist, Fischer-Art maintains good contacts with representatives from politics, business and show business. For the Cicero cover picture in August 2005, he painted the then Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder . Other portraits show u. a. Chancellor Angela Merkel (meeting in September 2004), actor Larry Hagman (October 2004) and former President Mikhail Gorbachev (March 2005). In May 2006, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Desmond Tutu visited the artist's studio in Leipzig. Saxony's Prime Minister Georg Milbradt also uses a brush for a press photo with Fischer-Art. Guido Westerwelle was also one of the painter's advocates, who set out to fight the gray of inner cities with his colors and figures.
