Susie Garrett

Susie Garrett (born December 29, 1929 in Detroit , Michigan , † May 24, 2002 in Southfield , Michigan) was an American actress and singer .

Life

Garrett first appeared as a jazz singer in Detroit clubs. After a few supporting roles in Twilight Zone and The Jeffersons , she played Betty Johnson in Punky Brewster for 85 episodes . In addition to her acting career, she studied psychology at Shaw College. She also founded the Crossroads Art Academy acting school in Los Angeles with her sister Marla Gibbs .

On May 24, 2002, she died at Providence Hospital in Southfield at the age of 72 years to cancer . She is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit.
