Kuban Airlines ( Russian Авиационные линии Кубани ) was a Russian airline based in Krasnodar and based at Krasnodar Airport .

history

The airline was founded in 1932 as a division of Aeroflot . In 1992 it was privatized: 51 percent held the Krasnodar Territory and 49 percent held the airline's employees. In 2004 the Krasnodar Territory sold its stake in this joint stock company to the Basic Element asset holding owned by oligarch Oleg Deripaska . Basic Element now holds 80 percent of Kuban Airlines.

In 2008, the number of passengers increased by 12.7 percent to 572,600 passengers on 4,384 flights. The airline's name is derived from the traditional name of the Krasnodar region, " Kuban region ", or the Kuban River .

From spring 2010 Kuban Airlines received Western models for the first time. The first two Boeing 737-300s ( aircraft registration numbers VQ-BHC and VQ-BHD ) arrived in Krasnodar in early March 2010. They come from the bmibaby inventory and have been given a new, colorful paint job that shows sunflower blossoms on the tail fin.

In November 2011, Kuban Airlines took over part of the SkyExpress fleet and route network , which had its operating license withdrawn for financial reasons.

On December 11, 2012, operations were discontinued for financial reasons and as a result of a new legal regulation regarding the minimum number of aircraft of one type.

Incidents

  • On December 26, 1993, an Antonov An-26 B of the Russian Kuban Airlines ( aircraft registration number RA-26141 ) had an accident while landing at Gyumri Airport ( Armenia ), with only one of the 36 people on board surviving. The machine was on a cargo flight from Krasnodar ( southern Russia ) and was loaded with two poorly lashed vehicles and petrol cans. The captain had decided to take an additional 31 passengers in the cargo plane. With a visibility of only 200 meters in thick fog, far below the prescribed minimum, the completely overloaded machine hit after stalling in a failed go - around attempt in the supine position 3 kilometers behind the touchdown point.
