The Shirak Airport ( IATA : LWN, ICAO : UDSG) is the international airport of the city of Gyumri and the province of Shirak in Armenia , at the same time after the airport Yerevan 's second largest airport in the country. It is about five kilometers from Gyumri.

According to the Armenian Aviation Administration, the existence of a second, "complete" airport is of strategic importance for the country.

history

The airport opened in 1961. The current building and the runway date from 1982. Repairs to the runway, which after some time were in poor condition, were not carried out for decades. It was not until 2007 that the operator Armenia International Airports (CJSC) carried out fundamental repairs on the runway, which was completely paved. The Finnish IDMAN light signaling system was installed, the ramp renovated and technology for ground handling imported.
