SkyExpress ( Russian : Скай Экспресс) was the first Russian low-cost airline based in Moscow and based at Moscow Vnukovo Airport .
history
SkyExpress was founded in March 2006 by Boris Abramowitsch, CEO and major shareholder of KrasAir . Originally, the shareholders were the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (20%) and the British investment companies Altima Partners (20%), MG Capital (10%) and Sloane Robinson (10%), along with his brother Alexander (together 40 %) . In March 2009, however, it became known that 75% of SkyExpress shares had been bought by the entrepreneur Vitaly Wanzew.
The first machine for SkyExpress was delivered to Moscow on November 12, 2006; Here it was a formerly from Lufthansa and the Brazilian Gol Transportes Aéreos powered Boeing 737-300 . On January 29, 2007, SkyExpress started regular flight operations with the start of the flight connection from Moscow to Sochi . By September 2007, six more domestic Russian destinations were added.
The company's cheapest airline tickets initially cost 500 rubles each (the equivalent of around 15 euros), but now they are available from 2000 rubles. As is usual with other low-cost airlines, sales were largely carried out via the Internet . Payment could be made, among other things, by credit card or cash at the Potschta Rossii or the branches of the WTB .
Financial problems arose for the first time in the spring of 2011 when SkyExpress' home base, Moscow-Vnukowo Airport, refused to handle its aircraft due to outstanding invoices. On October 31, 2011, the Russian aviation regulatory authority finally revoked the operating license of the heavily indebted airline. Part of the aircraft and the route network was taken over by Kuban Airlines .
Destinations
SkyExpress offered scheduled flights from Moscow to several destinations within Russia, including Kaliningrad , Murmansk and Tyumen , as well as seasonal charter flights to European vacation destinations.
