The Aleppo International Airport ( Arabic مطار حلب الدولي Maṭār Ḥalab ad-duwalī , IATA code : ALP , ICAO code : OSAP ) is an international airport near Aleppo , the second largest city in Syria .

In addition to the civil area, the airport also has a military area. Before the Syrian Civil War in 2011, the airport was the second busiest of Syria's airports after Damascus . In 2005, the airport recorded 8552 take-offs and landings, 487,471 passengers and 2,825 tons of cargo.

history

Before the Syrian Civil War, the airport had a capacity of around 1.5 million passengers. At the airport there was a duty-free shop, a bank, a café and rental cars.

The airport was a second hub for Syrian Arab Airlines , the national airline of Syria. The airport was also served by several other airlines from Africa , Asia and Europe .

In January 2013 the airport finally had to be closed in the course of the civil war and could only be reopened a year later after advances by the government troops . Another civilian flight landed on January 22, 2014, bringing foreign journalists into the city.

Civil, commercial flight operations were resumed in February 2020. Connections to Damascus and Cairo International Airport in Egypt are planned.
