Leonardo de Ferrari
Leonardo de Ferrari , also called Leonardino by his colleagues, was an Italian painter, draftsman and caricaturist from Bologna . He was a student of Lucío Massari of the Bolognese school . In the middle of the 17th century, Ferrari, like many of his colleagues from Bologna, was recruited to Madrid . From around 1650 to 1655 he worked for the Spanish politician and art collector Gaspar de Haro y Guzmán , Marquis of Heliche, on the creation of the so-called Atlas of the Marquis of Heliche . This important, epoch-making work with 133 drawings was not rediscovered until 2001 due to secrecy and subsequent oblivion and was first published in 2004. No other works are known from his time in Madrid. In Bologna, religious works can be found in some churches and convents. He also drew caricatures of simple people in carnival and in so-called obscene poses. So far (as of 2007) no more detailed biographical information is known from him.
