history

The area with the current name of Osdorp was mentioned for the first time between 1000 and 1100. An inaccessible moor and swamp area , which was later made habitable around 1100 and Osdorp was founded. In 1529 the branch was sold to Amsterdam and from 1816 Osdorp was part of the municipality of Sloten . Around 1850 the village had 45 apartments with 260 inhabitants. A district of Amsterdam became Osdorp in 1921 (Erika Swierstra, Fietsen door Landelijk Osdorp ).

The construction of the Westelijke Tuinsteden ( German  Westliche Gartenstädte ) began in 1951 and Osdorp was now called Oud-Osdorp to distinguish it from the Tuinstad Osdorp (German Garden City Osdorp ) . The family business Tuincentrum Osdorp was founded here in 1960 with a small range of indoor plants. The company now has 40,000 items on offer.

On December 1, 1981, Osdorp became one of the first autonomous urban districts of Amsterdam , together with Amsterdam North and is now a district of Amsterdam Nieuw-West . In the 1990s the district expanded with the De Aker district . According to the municipal plan "Richting Parkstad 2015", many of the old houses have been demolished since 2001 and replaced by new buildings, which means that the historic core of the city district is probably being lost.
