The Nine Streets (Dutch: Negen Straatjes ) are in the city center of Amsterdam and are side streets from the Prinsengracht , Keizersgracht , Herengracht and Singel , which form the Amsterdam Canal Belt ( Grachtengordel ). Together, these nine streets form a district with many small shops, bars and restaurants.

history

In the 17th century , parts of the canal belt were created and the four large canals of the canal belt were connected with side streets. At that time, this residential area was already known for its numerous craft and commercial businesses. Located in the center of Amsterdam , some of the Nine Streets got their names from tanneries , for example the Berenstraat (Bärenstraße), Reestraat (Rehstraße) and Wolvenstraat (Wolfsstraße).
