history

By 1850, industrial progress was growing in Western Europe , with the exception of the Netherlands . Half of the population lived here, at that time around 3 million (2013: around 16 million) in the countryside. Craft workshops , small factories and shipyards were used in urban areas . In the second half of the 19th century industrialization increased and many rural residents and workers moved to the cities. In 1899 the Dutch architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage received the order from the municipality of Amsterdam to draw up a plan ( Plan Zuid ) for the subdivision of the " Rivierenbuurt " area. The plan was adopted in 1905 and the plan was redrawn in 1915. All projects in Zuideramstel have been implemented over time.

The “Zuidelijke Tuinstad” ( German  southern garden city ) project began in 1958 and included the areas of Rivierenbuurt and Buitenveldert . The first apartments could be moved into in 1959. The first urban districts in Amsterdam were Amsterdam-Noord and Osdorp in 1981 , followed by the Zuideramstel district in 1998. In March 2010 there were around 60 who published the latest developments and information for residents online.
