Amstelpark
The Amstel Park is a park in the district of Amsterdam South in the province of North Holland . The park was laid out in 1972 for the Floriade gardening and agricultural exhibition on an area of 700,000 m², part of the Beatrix Park was part of the exhibition.
Between 800,000 and a million visitors come to the park every year. On the southern side of the Amstelpark is the Riekermolen windmill (from 1636) with a statue of Rembrandt van Rijns . In 1987 the park was part of the Buitenveldert district and between 1998 and 2012 it belonged to Zuideramstel . From March to October, the Pure Market takes place in the park every second Sunday of the month . In this market , the producers of food and beverages sell their products themselves. Buyers can find out about the origin, production and quality.
After the closure of the Floriade in the Amstelpark area, a large part of the exhibition attractions remained behind. These include the Amsteltrein (a park railway ), a labyrinth ("doolhof"), the "Gläserne Haus" (het Glazen Huis ), the Rosarium , a mini golf course ("Midgetgolfbahn"), a large children's playground and the rhododendron garden .
Sights and attractions (selection)
- The Amsteltrein runs along the Rosarium, the Glass House and the mini golf course. A journey takes about 15 minutes.
- The Kinderboerderij ( petting zoo ) was renovated in 2010 and was named Stadboerderij . There are chickens, donkeys, sheep, rabbits, pigs and goats. A Schaafscheerfeest (a festival where sheep are sheared) is held in spring .
- The Kinderspeeltuin (playground) with numerous attractions for children, including a “Kindertrein”, mini cars and a windmill.
- The mini golf course ("midget golf") offers a choice of two courses and is surrounded by small gardens.
- Gallery / Atelier Papillon for gifts, art and jewelry. An artist gives drawing and painting courses, organizes workshops and children's parties. The gallery is open from Wednesday to Sunday.
- The Doolhof (labyrinth) is surrounded by water and has a total length of 330 meters. Use is free.
- In the Heemtuin ("Heemgarten") there are rare plant species that are threatened with extinction. Even buzzards and tawny owls are found there.
- Japanse Tuin ("Japanese Garden"). The garden was renovated in 2001 to mark 400 years of relations between the Netherlands and Japan.
- The Glass House ("Glazen Huis") is used for exhibitions by artists and was also renovated in 2002. Works by sculptors , sculptures and video art can be seen. The opening times are different and depend on the planned exhibitions.
- Land-in-wording is a nature area in the Amstelpark, which is in its original condition from before the Floriade. Orchids Among other things, numerous different mushrooms grow there.
Transport links
- The Amsterdam tram no. 4 goes to the stop “Station RAI”. There is also the through station Amsterdam RAI station . From there it is a 7 to 10 minute walk to Amstelpark.
