history
The name Driemond has its origin from three small rivers that come together near the village: Gein, Gaasp and Smal Weesp . The name Driemond was officially introduced in 1961, previously the district was called Geinbrug. Driemond is located in the west of Weesp , in the south-east of the municipality of Amsterdam and borders in the east on the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal ( Dutch Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal ).
The village has a rich history. Until July 31, 1966, the hamlet of Geinbrug belonged to the Weesperkarspel municipality with the Weespertrekvaart. Weespertrekvaart was already laid out in 1639, using various existing waterways ( Vaarweg or Waterweg in Dutch ). The navigable canals were intended for trek barges (Dutch trekschuiten ).
The community Weesperkarspel included North and East Duivendrecht , Geinbrug (or Driemond) and Bijlmermeer. In 1811 Weesperkarspel came to the city of Weesp . On August 1, 1966, the Weesperkarspel area was divided into the municipalities of Amsterdam, `s Graveland, Hilversum, Naarden and Weesp. A change came in 1987, Weesperkarspel was assigned to the Amsterdam Zuid-Oost district.
Driemond has two primary schools and two allotments : Linnaeus and Frankendaal . In the village there is a windmill , the Gaaspermolen (also called Gemeenschapsmolen ) from 1707. In addition, two monuments ( Rijksmonument ) are listed . A farm (Dutch boerderij ) and a building from 1754. The Geinloop event has been held annually since 1977 . A performance run (Dutch prestatieloop ) in which everyone can participate.
