The name Driemond was officially introduced in 1961, previously the district was called Geinbrug. The community Weesperkarspel included North and East Duivendrecht , Geinbrug (or Driemond) and Bijlmermeer. In 1811 Weesperkarspel came to the city of Weesp . On August 1, 1966, the Weesperkarspel area was divided into the municipalities of Amsterdam, `s Graveland, Hilversum, Naarden and Weesp. A change came in 1987, Weesperkarspel was assigned to the Amsterdam Zuid-Oost district.
