Zeeburg is a district of the Amsterdam-Oost district of the municipality of Amsterdam in the Dutch province of North Holland . In January 2010 Zeeburg had 56,040 inhabitants.

history

In 1990 Zeeburg officially became a district of Amsterdam. The name was chosen after the Zeeburgerdijk ( German  Zeeburgerdeich ) and the Zeeburgereiland (German Zeeburgerinsel ). In the 17th century the name for today's Zeeburgerdijk was "Seeburg" (named after a fortress). Housing construction began at the end of the 19th century. At this time, the eastern harbor area ( Oostelijke Havengebied ) and the residential area " Indian Buurt " were also created.

The parks are in Zeeburg:

Flevopark on the eastern side of the Indian Buurt . It was created in 1908.

Diemerpark near IJburg , a nature area that is twice as large as the Vondelpark (around 95 hectares). The park was opened in 2004 and has, among other things, a playground for children.

Zeeburg had four districts: Indische Buurt . The name originated at the beginning of the 20th century. Many streets in the neighborhood were named after islands and geographic terms from a former Dutch colony . In 2003 the "Indian buurt" had 23,350 inhabitants and differentiates between the residential areas "Indian buurt West" and "Indian buurt Oost". It is the oldest neighborhood in Zeeburg with different nationalities and over 100 languages.

IJburg is under construction and is located in the east of Amsterdam. The quarter was built on man-made islands and is located in the IJmeer . IJburg can be reached via numerous bridges and, since 2005, with the IJ tram No. 26 ("IJtram" 26), which leads over the Enneüs Heermabrug.

Oostelijk Havengebied (former name: Rietlanden ). At the end of the 19th century a port was built here to handle the growing trade with India .

Zeeburgereiland is an almost triangular island and lies between Oranjesluizen and the Diemerzeedijk. The Piet Heyn tunnel has been connecting Zeeburg with the port area in the east of the city since 1997.

As part of the 1928 Summer Olympics , the shooting competitions and modern pentathlon shooting took place on the Zeeburg shooting range .

Trivia

The ship “De Oceaan” designed by Robert Jasper Grootveld is located on the Zeeburg landing stage and is part of the “green fleet” he built.
