De Pijp is a neighborhood in Amsterdam-Zuid , which is located on the southern edge of Amsterdam city center .

The quarter has 35,260 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), including many people of foreign origins and students. The southern part ( Nieuwe Pijp ) of the quarter was built in the style of the Amsterdam School at the beginning of the 20th century according to the urban planning of the architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage . Many streets are named after Dutch painters.

Tourist attractions are the Albert Cuyp market, which takes place in Albert-Cuyp -Straße, the Heineken brewery , the Asscher diamond cutting shop and the Okura Hotel. The many cafes are among other things the meeting place for the students. The Sarphatipark is located in the middle of the quarter . There is a prostitution area of the city on the western edge .
