Westerpark is a district of the Dutch capital Amsterdam , province of North Holland , and belongs to the municipality of Amsterdam-West .
Westerpark has around 35,000 inhabitants, around 50% of whom are foreigners. The surface is 10.96 km², 0.76 km² of which is water. Westerpark is close to the center . The districts Staatslieden-, Spaarndammer-, Zeehelden- and Hugo de Grootbuurt form the district. In 1883 a combination of nature and culture was set up on the site of the " Westergasfabriek ". On 13 hectares there are restaurants, an event space (for example for music), a “theater village”, sports facilities and various small gardens or green spaces. In the 19th century there were 26 windmills in this area, of which only one remains, De Otter . It is the oldest wood saw windmill in the Netherlands.
The park of the same name in the district is a popular destination that can also be easily explored by boat.
