The Kolenkitbuurt ( German  Kolenkitviertel ) is a district in the Amsterdam-West district ( province of North Holland ). The quarter had 11.5% unemployed in 2009 and was in the list of the “20 problem areas” in the Netherlands . At the beginning of 2009 it had 7,070 inhabitants, 80 to 85% of them foreign citizens.

history

Opstandingskerk, also known as Kolenkit .

The Kolenkitbuurt is bounded by Rijksweg 10 (A10 for short), Erasmusgracht and Haarlemmerweg. The quarter was laid out after the Second World War and the first apartments were built in the 1950s. The district got its name after the Opstandingskerk (German: Church of Resurrection ) built in 1956 , which is popularly called Kolenkit . The construction of the church cost 850,000 guilders and was designed by the Dutch architect Mariua Duintjer.

In June 2012 the Cinema Al Kolenkit Festival was organized on the Ernest Staesplein with film, readings, discussions and workshops.
