Amsteldorp ( German  Amsteldorf ) is a district in the district of Amsterdam-Oost , also known as "Oost-Watergraafsmeer" ( province of North Holland ), and was built in 1948 near the Amsterdam-Amstel train station.

history

The district consists of the neighborhoods Tuindorp Amstelstation and de Wetbuurt . Until the late 1940s, the present area and the surrounding area were pastureland. In 1948 the construction of the "Tuindorpes" ("Tuindorp", in the sense of garden city ) Amsteldorp began. The quarter has around 2,650 inhabitants. The neighborhood quarter de Wetbuurt has existed since 1920. In Amsteldorp there are numerous green spaces, playgrounds, three old people's homes, a primary school and the “Amsteldorp Sports Park”.

Amstelstation

The nearby "Sportpark Drieburg" in Amsterdam East can only be reached by car from Fizeaustraat in Amsteldorp. It is a 15 hectare sports park with, among other things, seven soccer fields and seven tennis courts, around 600 trees and 35 different species of birds. In Amsteldorp there is the residents' group “Amsteldorp Actief”, who put on a musical with the idea of bringing older and younger residents into contact. The musical Alice in Amsteldorp was awarded the “Betere Buurtprijs” (German Better Neighborhood Prize).

The Amsteldorp described here near the Amsterdam-Amstel train station should not be confused with the earlier hamlet of the same name, "Amsteldorp", which existed until around 1920. Today the district is called Rivierenbuurt .
