Bos en Lommer is a district of the Dutch capital Amsterdam , province of North Holland , and is located in the district of Amsterdam-West . The neighborhood was an independent district in 1990 and is one of the forty so-called problem districts (2009) in the Netherlands, where social and economic problems are particularly noticeable. The area is 2.71 km² and in 2003 about 31,000 people lived in this district.

history

Mentioned in 1639, the present part of the city, together with the villages of Sloterdijk , Osdorp and Vrije Geer, belonged to the municipality of Sloten in a polder area that was drained in 1639. With a new housing law of 1901 and the increase in population, there was a modernization and the amalgamation of various interest organizations: business associations, transport, public housing and recreation areas. A commission headed by A. Bos drew up a Schemaplan voor Groot-Amsterdam in 1924 , but this was rejected. Four years later, a new department was set up, Algemeen Uitbreidungsplan Amsterdam (AUB). In 1934 the Bosch en Lommer plan was drawn up to expand the district for 35,000 residents. This plan was approved by the local council on December 4, 1935. It took three years to realize the plan.

development

The district of Bos en Lommer is now divided into the following six quarters:

Erasmusparkbuurt Between 1920 and 1940, most of the apartments were built here. The Erasmuspark and the Erasmusgracht are located here. The park can be used for walking, playing football and picnicking.

Kolenkitbuurt This residential area was named after the Opstandingskerk from the 1950s. New residential construction and restoration are in the foreground here.

Gibraltarbuurt A multicultural residential area, with Oud Sloterdijk, the Petrus and Boom Church, this area still has a historical background.

Landlustbuurt With two communal houses (“Buurthuis”) on Karel Doorman-Plein and a children's playground, the Landlustbuurt is located between the famous streets Willem de Zwijgerlaan, Haarlemmerweg, Jan van Galenstraat and Admiraal de Ruyterweg.

Gulden Winckelbuurt With a modern library and a market, the Golden Shopping District is the heart of Bos en Lommer.

Robert Scottbuurt Characteristic of this residential area is the Jan van Galen sports park, the De Boeg care home ; as well as institutions of public education as well as social and community welfare.

Each of the six residential areas has its own Buurtmanager ( district manager ). The street names are often named after famous seafarers, sea battles and historical books.
