De Aker is a district in the Amsterdam Nieuw-West district in the province of North Holland and makes up part of Osdorp . The name comes from the polder "Middelveldsche Akerpolder". The district is bordered by the Zwarte Pad , the Wijsentkade , the Bonhoeffer - and the Bloemengartensingel , as well as part of the Osdorperweg and the Frankfurthersingel . On January 1, 2017, De Aker had 10,620 inhabitants, 4,570 of whom lived in De Aker-West and 6,050 in De Aker-Oost .

history

The former "Akerpolder" was drained in 1598. The first local farmers used the area as grassland for their cattle. They built houses, stables and barns. Plant nurseries and a trailer park , De Rolleman , were added later.

In the 1960s, part of De Aker was inhabited and was given the name Middelveldsche Akerpolder (abbreviated: MAP 1). From 1988 the rest of the area was populated and apartments built (MAP 2). The hamlets Bergenwijk, Eilandenwijk, Geldwijk and Merenwijk were created . In 2004 the development of De Aker was completed.

There is an “Activity Center” for children in De Aker . Every Wednesday there is a “children's club” run by the residents of the district on a voluntary basis. The year- round activities are concluded with the Vader Festival . Under the name “Wereldvaders” fathers' attention is drawn to raising children.

The Huis van de Wijk De Aker & Osdorp West (a building as an information center in the district for the residents of De Aker and Osdorp-West ) is a meeting place for the residents for courses, information and social activities. The Huis van de Wijk is open seven days a week.

A cycling and walking path leads past the Akermolen , a connection between the recreation area between Amstelland and Spaarnwoude.

traffic connection

The tram (Tramlijn) No. 1 runs from the main station in the direction of Dam , the Leidsestraat, Overtoom and Lelylaan to the end point De Aker in Osdorp.

De Akermolen

De Akermolen after the renovation in 2011

De Akermolen ( German  Akermühle ), also called Oude Molen (German old mill ), used to be a windmill in Osdorp and is a leftover part of a polder mill. The mill from 1876 is located at Zwarte Pad No. 30. De Akermolen was probably not rebuilt in 1876, but use was made of a broken windmill from another polder (Frank Henke). The mill is called "Molenromp" (mill body) because the upper part, the wind blades, are no longer there. At the beginning of the 20th century, the wind blades were replaced by an electric pumping station.
