The Czaar Peterbuurt is a district in the district of Amsterdam-Centrum ( province of North Holland ) and is located east of the Oostelijke Eilanden . In 2017 the quarter had 2,230 inhabitants.

history

The residential district Czaar Peterbuurt was named after the Russian Tsar Peter I the Great and was laid out in 1876. The Czaar Peterbuurt and the district "Funen" (named after the Bollwerk de "Funen") were merged in 2005 under the name Petersburg .

In the second half of the 17th century , the Oostelijke Eilanden (literally: "Eastern Islands") with numerous shipyards from the "Admiraliteit van Amsterdam" and the Dutch East India Company (Dutch: Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie , VOC) emerged. One of the last windmills, the cocoa mill de goede Verwachting , in the vicinity of the district was demolished in 1906 to make way for the construction of houses. In 1884 the first horse tram ( Paardentram ) went through the Czaar Peterbuurt and in 1906 the first electric tram (Dutch: “Tram”) No. 13 to Amsterdam Central Station . In 1938 the "tram" was replaced by a bus, and since 2004 bus no. 32 has been running through Czaar Peterstraat ("Czaar Peterstrasse") and tram no. 10.

In 2003, the modernization of the district started with the Czaar Peterstraat as the center . The plans included 500 new rental apartments, studios, cafes, restaurants, a library and a playground. The Theater Fabriek Amsterdam was founded in a former factory building in the Czaar Peterstraat with over 1000 seats and a modern restaurant. The sturdy and industrial character of the previous factory has been retained as far as possible. An extensive program is offered under the name “Stage Theaters Programming”. In 2014 the theater was closed.
