The Schermzaal ( German Fechthalle ) was a sports hall in the Dutch capital Amsterdam .
history
As part of the 1928 Summer Olympics , the fencing competitions of the games and modern pentathlon fencing took place in the Schermzaal . The hall consisted of eight fencing lanes, each measuring 2 × 19 meters. For the fights with the sword, the underground of the tracks was made of gravel. The saber and foil fights were fought on a linoleum floor. To ensure good lighting conditions, the sides were mostly made of glass. As with the Krachtsportgebouw , which, like the Schermzaal , was designed by Jan Wils , there was a wing on the building with eight changing rooms, a shower and an office.
