Princess Irene (1978)

Irene Emma Elisabeth (born August 5, 1939 in Palais Soestdijk ), Princess of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau , Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld , is one of Beatrix's three sisters of the Netherlands . She now calls herself Irene van Lippe-Biesterfeld .

She is the second oldest daughter of Queen Juliana and her husband Prince Bernhard .

Through her marriage to the Carlist pretender Prince Carlos Hugo of Bourbon-Parma in 1964 without the consent of parliament, she officially lost her membership of the royal family and, as a result of her conversion to Catholicism, the right to succession to the throne . In 1981 the marriage was divorced again. Irene's younger sister Christina lost her royal family membership for similar reasons. Apart from Beatrix, only her sister Margriet officially belongs to the Dutch royal family.

She is a member of the Club of Budapest , a worldwide association promoting a culture of global responsibility.
