Rainer Ganahl

Rainer Ganahl (* 1961 in Bludenz ) is an Austrian- American artist.

Life

Ganahl attended a commercial academy and studied from 1986 to 1991 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna with Peter Weibel and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Nam June Paik . In 1990/91 he took part in the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art . Since 2006, Ganahl has been professor of sculpture - material and space concepts, including new media - at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart .

Important topics in Rainer Ganahl's post-conceptual work are language, the educational system, media and politics. For example, his photo series S / L (Seminars / Lectures) shows lectures and lectures at universities. They show not only the speakers, but also the listeners and students in the audience. In a similar way, he documents his own study of “exotic” languages ​​(e.g. Japanese) in the form of an art project.
