Location of the Ebkeriege barracks in Lower Saxony |
The Ebkeriege Barracks is a predominantly from the German Navy and the Joint Support unused military property in the district Ebkeriege in Wilhelmshaven .
history
The history of the German Navy is closely linked to the Ebkeriege barracks in so far as the construction of the German Navy began there on January 2, 1956 with the arrival of the first volunteers .
In previous years, parts of the naval support command and the naval transport battalion 2 were stationed in the Ebkeriege barracks. There was also a Bundeswehr driver training unit and, until December 9, 2008, the Navy's center for recruiting young people , which has since been housed at the Heppenser Groden naval base .
Since the Ebkeriege barracks is a spatially rather small property, it was assigned a dislocated technical area, in which there were several workshops and maintenance halls as well as a large parking space for motor vehicles.
The barracks housed u. a. the North Sea Marine Music Corps , which was disbanded on March 31, 2014.
today
The shift in the focus of the Bundeswehr's main tasks resulted in structural changes in the navy, which also affected the stationing concept of the Ebkeriege barracks. Increasingly abandoned, several buildings and areas of the barracks are in a shabby, sometimes even dilapidated condition.
The barracks should be closed in 2016.
After the renovation work was completed, it became known that, contrary to previous announcements, the barracks would still be used for military purposes. It is mainly used to accommodate soldiers deployed on board who, after the introduction of the Soldiers Working Hours Ordinance ( SAZV ), are increasingly unable to stay overnight on board.
