Besançon-Viotte train station is the main train station in the French city of Besançon . The station has been served by the TGV since 1981 . Since December 11, 2011, the city has had a second long-distance station on the new LGV Rhin-Rhône line , the Besançon Franche-Comté TGV station .
history
The station was opened in 1855 as this location was preferred. The line to Bourg-en-Bresse was opened in 1856, the line to Belfort in 1858 and the line to Vesoul in 1872 . But the station was too far out for the city and therefore the additional station Besançon-la Mouillère was built in 1884, this is on the Besançon – Le Locle line that went into operation in the same year . But this station was of less importance than the Viotte station.
Viotte station was bombed by Royal Air Force aircraft on the night of July 15, 1943 , and the next morning the station was in ruins. In 1962, the city council decided to demolish the Besançon-la Mouillère station building and build a new building for the Viotte station. This still exists today.
Infrastructure
The station had a large depot. Among other things, Micheline was based in Besançon. The station has 4 platforms, there are 8 platform tracks, one of which is a stump track. Between 2009 and 2011, the station was rebuilt, including installing elevators and building new platforms. This is related to the commissioning of the LGV Rhin-Rhône .
business
The station is served by TGVs and trains from the TER Franche-Comté network .
Line 2 of the Besançon tram serves the station.
