geography

Miellin is located at an altitude of 579 m above sea level, four kilometers east of Servance and about 22 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Belfort (as the crow flies). The village extends in the far east of the department, in the southwest Vosges , west of the Ballon de Servance , in the valley of the Doue de l'Eau .

The area of the 13.36 km² Commune déléguée covers a section of the south-western Vosges. The main part of the area is taken up by the valley of the Doue de l'Eau, which rises at the Ballon de Servance and provides drainage to the west to the Ognon . In the municipality it takes on the Ruisseau des Landres from the south . The valley basin is cut deep into the surrounding heights. It is predominantly forested, there are only a few agricultural areas.

The valley of the Doue de l'Eau is flanked in the north by the ridge of Mont Cornu and Bois le Sapois (up to 890 m), in the east by the mountain ridge of the Ballon de Servance (up to 1150 m) in the south and in the south by the Heights of the Plateau de Bravouse (at 1180 m the highest point in Miellin) and of the Ballon (1050 m). From a geological and tectonic point of view, the heights consist mainly of crystalline bedrock. The valleys are filled with sediment and gravel deposits of the Quaternary . The entire municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park .

The Commune déléguée Miellin includes the following settlements in addition to the capital Miellin:

  • La Forge (498 m) on the Doue de l'Eau
  • Les Frechins (588 m) at the confluence of the Ruisseau des Landres and the Doue de l'Eau
  • Landres du Dessus (780 m) on the southern slope of the Doue de l'Eau

history

In the Middle Ages, Miellin belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in it to the area of the Bailliage d'Amont . The lords of Faucogney initially held sovereignty over the area. Later Miellin was dependent on the Servance rule, which was bought in 1532 by the Lure monastery. Together with Franche-Comté , Miellin finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. It was not until 1821 that Miellin was separated from Servance and made an independent municipality. A glassworks was founded here as early as 1695 and was in operation until 1837. During the 19th century, the iron and wood processing industry established itself in the Miellin valley. The municipality of Miellin was a member of the community association Communauté de communes de la Haute Vallée de l'Ognon, comprising 12 municipalities .

On January 1, 2017, the Miellin community merged with Servance to form the Commune nouvelle Servance-Miellin . Since then it has had the status of a Commune déléguée.

Attractions

Church of St. Blasius Miellin

The three-aisled village church of St. Blasius von Miellin was built from 1849 to 1854 on the site of an earlier chapel in the neo-Gothic style, damaged in a bombing in 1944 and restored from 1946. The interior includes statues from the 18th century and chandeliers with glass from the Miellin Verrerie. A Calvaire comes from the 18th century . Other sights include a house of the Templar Order and a granite fountain (1886). The Saint-Blaise chapel stands on the slope high above the village.

Economy and Infrastructure

The village is far away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from Servance on the department road that leads from Lure via Mélisey to Le Thillot . Another road connection is via Belfahy with Plancher-Bas.
