Anthony Fisher
Anthony Colin Joseph Fisher OP (born March 10, 1960 in Sydney , Australia ), short: Anthony Fisher , is an Australian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sydney .
Life
Anthony Fisher first studied history and law at the University of Sydney and then practiced as a lawyer. In 1985 he joined the Congregation of the Dominicans at, studied Catholic theology in Melbourne and received on 14 September 1991, the priestly ordination by Bishop Eusebius John Crawford OP. In 1995 he received his PhD in bioethics from the University of Oxford . From 1995 to 2000 he taught at the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne. In 2000 he was founding director of the John Paul II Pontifical Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at the Pontifical Lateran University ; he has held the chair for bioethics and morals since 2000. He is also the Associate Chancellor of the Catholic Institute of Sydney .
On 16 July 2003 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Buruni and Auxiliary Bishop in Sydney. The episcopal ordination donated him on September 3, 2003 George Pell , as the then Archbishop of Sydney; Co- consecrators were Edward Bede Cardinal Clancy , Archbishop Emeritus of Sydney, and Bernard Cyril O'Grady OP, Bishop of Gizo .
On January 8, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the bishop of Parramatta . On September 18, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Sydney. The inauguration took place on November 12 of the same year.
Anthony Fisher was named Grand Officer of the Papal Laity Order in 2015 by Edwin Frederick Cardinal O'Brien , Cardinal Grand Master of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem . He was also appointed Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy of New South Wales in Australia, succeeding George Cardinal Pell .
Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on May 6, 2015 .
Act
Fisher published several books on bioethics and morals. He is a bioethical advisor to Sydney's Cardinal George Pell and is involved in the dispute over the abortion drug RU486 in Australia. In addition to other duties in the Order and the Archdiocese, he is a full member of the Pontifical Academy for Life , chaplain of the parliament in the state of Victoria and a member of the Order of Malta . He was co-coordinator of World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney.
