Kristijna Loonen

Kristijna Loonen (born July 26, 1970 ) is a Dutch long-distance runner .

Career

In 1992 and 1996 she competed for her country at the World Cross Country Championships and came in 83rd and 68th respectively. In 1995 and 1998 she took part in the World Half Marathon Championships and finished 58th and 41st respectively. She set her best time in the half marathon in 1996 with 1:12:58 h in Haarlem .

In 2004 she switched to the marathon route and finished ninth in the Rotterdam and fourth in the Amsterdam marathon . In 2005 she became Dutch champion in the 10,000 meter run , fifth at the Rotterdam marathon in her personal best of 2:33:28 h and second at the Amsterdam marathon in 2:34:08 h. The following year, she was the Dutch marathon champion, finishing tenth in the Rotterdam Marathon. The runner, also known as “De Vulkaan” (“the volcano”) because of her extreme temperament, was removed from the list for the European Athletics Championships in 2006 because of repeated unsportsmanlike behavior (namely, uncontrolled outbursts of anger during competitions).

In 2007 she won the Barcelona Marathon and the San Sebastian Marathon and came second in the Lausanne Marathon . In 2008 she won the Antalya Marathon .
