Pocahontas is an American city in the US state of Arkansas and is the capital, thus also the administrative seat, of Randolph County . According to the United States Census Bureau's 2006 extrapolation based on the 2000 census , Pocahontas has 6,765 residents.

Pocahontas has a total area of 19.5 km², including 0.5 km² of water. The city is located on the Black River in northeast Arkansas.
Randolph County borders the state of Missouri .
education
The local school system consists of the following school facilities:
- Alma Spikes Elementary School (Elementary School)
- MD Williams Intermediate School
- Pocahontas Junior High School (Grades 7-9)
- Pocahontas High School (Grades 10-12)
Pocahontas is also home to the Black River Technical College (BRTC). The mascot of the local schools is the "redskin" ("red skin"), this is a racially descriptive term for "Indian".
