Nell I. Mondy

Nell I. Mondy (* 27. October 1921 in Pocahontas , Arkansas ; † 1. September 2005 in Ithaca , New York ) was an US -American biochemist and for their "potato" research internationally.

Life

Mondy grew up in the small town of Pocahontas, Arkansas. She first studied at Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and graduated in 1943 with summa cum laude . She received her Masters from Texas University in 1945. In 1953 she received her PhD from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. There she embarked on a scientific career, becoming a professor of nutritional sciences and retiring in 1992. Early on she presented the scientific connection between vitamin B6 , folic acid , vitamin B12 and enzymes in the organic metabolism ("Choline Metabolism"). Her main area of ​​research, however, was the potato , which she regarded as the essential food source of the world. Mondy has published well over 100 scientific papers, the book "Experimental Food Chemistry" in particular became famous.

She died at the age of 83 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, New York.
