Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor al Masrie bin Sheikh Mustapha (born July 27, 1972 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia ) is a Malaysian doctor and the first and so far only spaceman in his country.

Muszaphar Shukor studied medicine, specializing in orthopedics , at the Kasturba Medical College (Karnataka) in India and worked in various hospitals in Malaysia.

On September 9, 2006, he was selected for the Soyuz TMA-11 crew as part of the Angkasawan space program. Together with his substitute, the dentist Faiz Khaleed , he began his cosmonaut training in October 2006.

Muszaphar Shukor started on October 10, 2007 together with Yuri Malentschenko and Peggy Whitson for the International Space Station . There the science astronaut carried out experiments on liver cancer , leukemia cells and experiments on the crystallization of proteins and microbes. After eleven days, Shukor returned to Earth with Soyuz TMA-10 .
