Angkasawan

Angkasawan ( Malay for spaceman ) is the name for the manned Malaysian space program. It was used to select a Malaysian spaceman to fly to the International Space Station . The outbound flight took place on October 10, 2007 with ISS Expedition 16 on board Soyuz TMA-11 . The return flight took place eleven days later with the returning ISS Expedition 15 in Soyuz TMA-10 .

The program had both scientific and technological objectives, but was also intended to provide inspiration.

Candidate list

On September 4, 2006 in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced the names of his country's first spaceman. It was the doctor Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor . The dentist Faiz Khaleed was planned as a substitute .

All four trained together in Svyosdny Gorodok (translated star city ) near Moscow for their work.
