Soyuz TMA-10 is the mission name for the flight of a Russian Soyuz spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS) . As part of the ISS program, the flight is designated ISS AF-14S . It was the 14th visit by a Soyuz spacecraft to the ISS and the 120th flight in the Soyuz program.

crew

Starting crew

Since Yurchikhin made his first space flight with the space shuttle , Soyuz TMA-10 is the first flight since Soyuz 7 in 1969, in which all three space travelers take off for the first time with a Soyuz spacecraft.

Substitute team

Return crew

  • Oleg Valerjewitsch Kotow (1st space flight), Commander (Roskosmos / Russia)
  • Fjodor Nikolajewitsch Yurtschichin (2nd space flight), flight engineer (Roskosmos / Russia)
  • Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor ( Malaysia ) (1st space flight), science spaceman , first Malay " Angkasawan "MalaysiaMalaysia

Mission overview

This mission brought the 15th long-term crew to the International Space Station and replaced the Soyuz TMA-9 spacecraft as a rescue vehicle. The space tourist Anousheh Ansari was originally intended for this flight. However, after being preferred to Soyuz TMA-9, Charles Simonyi took third place alongside Yurchichin and Kotow.

After the crew of ISS Expedition 16 flew to the ISS with Soyuz TMA-11 together with the first Malaysian spaceman Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor , the 15th expedition returned with the spaceship with which they had started to the International Space Station. During the return flight, there were initially unexplained deviations during re-entry, so that the on-board computer guided the capsule on a ballistic trajectory and the space travelers were thus exposed to higher accelerations (8.6 g ) when entering the atmosphere . Nevertheless, all three space travelers were fine after landing. After the Soyuz TMA-11 also suffered a ballistic landing, the probable primary cause of the error was found to be a structural problem in the separating device between the landing and drive module .
