Mission description
As has been customary since Soyuz TMA-08M , the spacecraft approached the ISS in just six hours and docked with the Rassvet mini research module at 10:27 UTC . On board was the torch that was to be used to light the Olympic flame on February 7, 2014 in Sochi . Soyuz TMA-11M took off while Soyuz TMA-09M was at the ISS so that the torch could be brought back to earth in time (still without fire) . For the first time since October 2009, three Soyuz spaceships were on the ISS at the same time.
Soyuz TMA-11M brought three crew members to the ISS who, after the departure of Soyuz TMA-09M, together with the crew members of Soyuz TMA-10M formed ISS Expedition 38 . After decoupling from Soyuz TMA-10M, the crew switched to ISS Expedition 39 , with Kōichi Wakata as commander.
On May 13, 2014 at 10:36 UTC Soyuz TMA-11M undocked with Tyurin, Mastracchio and Wakata on board. This marked the beginning of Expedition 40 on the ISS with Steven Swanson as commander. The landing then took place on May 14th at 1:58 UTC 148 km southeast of Scheskasgan at 20 degrees Celsius and a cloudless sky in the steppe of Kazakhstan .
