Soyuz MS-04 was a mission name for a flight of the Russian spacecraft Soyuz to the International Space Station . As part of the ISS program, the flight was designated ISS AF-50S. It was the 50th visit by a Soyuz spacecraft to the ISS and the 156th flight in the Soyuz program.
crew
Starting crew
- Fyodor Nikolajewitsch Yurtschichin (5th space flight), Commander ( Russia / Roscosmos )
- Jack Fischer (1st spaceflight), flight engineer ( USA / NASA )
Substitute team
- Sergei Nikolajewitsch Ryazansky (2nd space flight), Commander (Russia / Roscosmos)
- Randolph Bresnik (2nd space flight), flight engineer (USA / NASA)
Return crew
- Fyodor Nikolajewitsch Yurtschichin (5th space flight), Commander (Russia / Roscosmos)
- Jack Fischer (1st spaceflight), flight engineer (USA / NASA)
- Peggy Whitson (3rd space flight), flight engineer (USA / NASA)
Peggy Whitson came to the ISS with Soyuz MS-03 . Thanks to the free space on board the Soyuz MS-04, her stay could be extended by three months.
Mission description
The mission brought two crew members from ISS expeditions 51 and 52 to the International Space Station. Originally this crew was supposed to fly with Soyuz MS-05 . However, Roskosmos decided to bring the crew's mission forward, with the exception of Paolo Nespolis , in order to achieve savings in ISS operations.
Originally the mission was to be carried out with the spaceship 734. However, on January 16, 2017, it was announced that the spacecraft 735 would be used instead. This would have no technical, but contractual reasons.
Soyuz MS-04 paired in "express mode" as planned. H. after four earth orbits at the Russian ISS module Poisk .
The undocking took place on September 2, 2017 at 21:58 UTC, so the ISS Expedition 53 began on the station with Randolph Bresnik as commander. The landing took place one day later at 01:21 UTC, 148 km southeast of Scheskasgan in the Kazakh steppe .
