Kosmos 672 is a camouflage designation for an unmanned flight of the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz in 1974. It was customary in the Soviet Union to give an official name only to successful missions. Failed flights were mostly not announced at all and test flights were only announced under the general cover name Kosmos. It was the 29th flight in the Soviet Soyuz program.

Mission overview

This was the second flight in preparation for the joint Apollo-Soyuz project with NASA . Instead of the standard coupling system, the spaceship had a modified one in order to be able to dock onto the connection module APDS ( Androgynous Peripheral Docking System ). The spaceship was also fitted with two solar panels. During this mission, the flight profile for the upcoming coupling with the Apollo spacecraft was flown. Kosmos 672 reached the designated orbit on August 14 (227 km × 237 km).
