Soyuz 32 is the mission designation for the flight of a Soviet Soyuz spaceship to the Soviet space station Salyut 6, which started on February 25, 1979 . It was the seventh visit by a Soyuz spacecraft to this space station and the 52nd flight in the Soviet Soyuz program. After Soyuz 31 , an unmanned Soyuz-T spacecraft was launched under the code name Kosmos 1074 .
crew
Starting crew
- Vladimir Afanassjewitsch Lyachow (1st space flight), commander
- Valery Viktorovich Ryumin (2nd flight), flight engineer
Lyachow and Ryumin were previously together support team for Soyuz 26 and backup team for Soyuz 29 .
Substitute team
- Leonid Ivanovich Popov , commandant
- Valentin Vitalievich Lebedev , flight engineer
The support team consisted of Vyacheslav Sudov and Boris Andreyev .
Return crew
The return capsule landed empty.
Mission overview
Lyachow and Ryumin formed the third regular crew of Salyut 6 ( Salyut 6 EO-3 ). In her presence three supply spaceships, Progress 5, 6 and 7, were received and discharged. On August 15 , the cosmonauts left the station for outdoor work for an hour and 23 minutes.
During the stay, the Interkosmos crew from Soyuz 33 was scheduled to visit . The coupling could not take place due to problems with the main engine of Soyuz 33. This meant that it was no longer possible to replace the Soyuz 32 with the Soyuz 33 as a return module for the regular team. The lifespan of the Soyuz spaceships was limited to 90 days at that time and ended on May 26th. Therefore, on June 6th, the Soyuz 34 spacecraft was sent to the station unmanned. After successful coupling, the old Soyuz 32 was disconnected and landed on June 13th without a crew. Lyachow and Ryumin landed successfully with Soyuz 34.
