Soyuz 18 is the mission name for the flight of a Soviet Soyuz spacecraft to the Soviet space station Salyut 4, which started on May 24, 1975 . It was the second visit by a Soyuz spacecraft to this space station and the 34th flight in the Soviet Soyuz program.
crew
- Pyotr Ilyich Klimuk (2nd space flight), commander
- Witali Ivanovich Sevastyanov (2nd space flight), flight engineer
Sevastjanow and Klimuk were previously substitute crews for the flight, which was supposed to start under the name Soyuz 18, but was then canceled in the start phase. This flight was not officially numbered and is often listed as Soyuz 18-1 .
Substitute team
- Vladimir Wassiljewitsch Kowaljonok , commandant
- Yuri Anatolyevich Ponomarew , flight engineer
Mission overview
After the failure of the Soyuz 18-1 flight, the focus was on continuing work with the space station. The main focus was on medical-biological experiments related to the extension of the flight duration (from 29 to almost 63 days). In addition, the earth and atmosphere recordings as well as the astrophysical investigations were continued. During the Soyuz 18 flight, the Apollo-Soyuz project also took place. During this time seven space travelers were in space at the same time.
Flight data
The parameters specified here represent the published data immediately after the end of the start phase. In connection with coupling maneuvers, path changes occur continuously. Deviations from information from various sources are therefore possible.
Orbit data of Salyut 4 at the time of coupling
- Perigee: 338 km
- Apogee: 449 km
- Orbit inclination: 51.59 °
- Earth orbit time: 91.34 min
