Mission description
The mission brought three crew members from ISS expeditions 39 and 40 to the International Space Station.
Soyuz TMA-12M was scheduled to dock with the ISS in “express mode”, ie after six hours or four orbits around the earth. The first two engine ignitions required for this took place properly. The third ignition failed because of incorrect orbit data. The Russian flight controllers then opted for the conventional approach over a period of two days. The approach to the ISS, the coupling and the transfer of the space travelers then took place without any problems.
On September 10, 2014 at 23:01 UTC Soyuz TMA-12M undocked with Skworzow, Artemjew and Swanson on board. This marked the beginning of Expedition 41 on the ISS with Maxim Surajew as commander. The Deorbit Burn took place at 1:30 UTC on September 11th and brought the space capsule into the denser areas of the earth's atmosphere at 2:01 UTC . The landing then took place at 2:23 UTC 149 km southeast of Scheskasgan, punctually and precisely in the steppe of Kazakhstan .
