Jelena Olegowna Serowa ( Russian Елена Олеговна Серова ; born April 22, 1976 in Vosdwischenka , near the city of Ussuriysk in the Primorye region ) is a former Russian cosmonaut .

In the parliamentary elections in 2016 , Serova was elected as a member of the Duma and then left the Russian cosmonaut corps.

education

Serova graduated from the Moscow State Aviation Institute in 2001 as a test engineer. In 2003 he graduated with a degree in economics from Moscow University of Instrument Development and Computer Science. Before joining the cosmonaut program, she worked as a technician at the Energija space company and at the Mission Control Center in Koroljow near Moscow .

Astronaut activity

In 2006 Serova was accepted into the cosmonaut training group RKKE-16. The basic training lasted from February 26, 2007 to June 2, 2009, which she completed as a test cosmonaut with the rating “good”. In 2011, she was nominated for the Soyuz TMA-14M flight , where she was assigned as a flight engineer. On the ISS, she was a member of the core team for ISS expeditions 41 and 42 . Serova is the first Russian cosmonaut to fly to the ISS and is only the fourth Russian woman to fly into space. In February 2016, she was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation .

Private

Jelena Serowa is married to the cosmonaut Mark Serow , who, however, has left the cosmonaut corps for health reasons without a space flight. The two have a daughter who was born in 2004.
