Oleg Germanowitsch Artemjew ( Russian Олег Германович Артемьев ; born December 28, 1970 in Riga , Latvian SSR , USSR ) is a Russian cosmonaut .

education

Artemjew studied at the Tallinn Polytechnic until 1990 . In 1998 he graduated from the State Technical University in Moscow .

Cosmonaut activity

Artemjew was selected as a member of the 15th RKK Energija selection group on May 29, 2003. He completed his basic cosmonaut training on June 28, 2005.

For the flight of Soyuz TMA-10M he was assigned to the reserve crew.

Artemjew took part as a flight engineer in ISS expeditions 39 and 40 to the International Space Station . The Soyuz TMA-12M spacecraft took off on March 25, 2014, the coupling could not be carried out as planned after almost six hours due to problems with the spacecraft control, but only took place two days later on March 27. The return to earth took place on September 11, 2014. In February 2016, he was awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation .

On March 21, 2018, Artemjew took off on the Soyuz MS-08 spacecraft on his second mission as a flight engineer on ISS expeditions 55 and 56 . On August 15, he mounted his colleague Prokopjew in several hours of spacewalk on ISS, the ICARUS antenna . The return to earth took place on October 4, 2018.
