Mission overview
This flight was a mission to the ISS and the 24th manned flight to this station. The Expedition 8 working on the space station was replaced by the Expedition 9 crew. It consisted of the Russian cosmonaut Gennadi Padalka (commander) and the American Edward Fincke (flight engineer). In addition, the Dutch ESA astronaut André Kuipers flew with him, who returned to Earth on April 30, 2004 with the Soyuz TMA-3 landing capsule after a short stay at the station .
The launch took place at a carrier rocket of the type Soyuz-FG from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on 14. October 2004 at 03:06:00 UTC.
The two spacemen Padalka and Fincke worked as the 9th regular crew on the ISS and carried out scientific experiments. They also received supplies from two Progress space transporters.
