Mission overview

With Soyuz 39, the 8th Interkosmos crew (also the 9th visiting team Salyut 6 EP-9 ) was brought to the Salyut 6 station. There she visited the 6th regular team (Salyut 6 EO-6) consisting of Vladimir Kowaljonok and Viktor Savinych , which had started with Soyuz T-4 .

On March 24, 1981, the cosmonauts installed cosmic ray detectors in the work and transition sections. On March 26, 1981 the "Illuminator" experiment was carried out. The aim was to determine the impairment of visibility caused by scratches caused by mirco meteorites in the portholes. The experiment called "hologram" served the same purpose on March 27, 1981. The experiment was repeated a day later. At the same time, air and microflora samples of the station atmosphere were taken and the radiation detectors dismantled so that they could be taken back to earth. As with the other Interkosmos expeditions, the earth observations of the home country of the visit took up a large area (March 28 and 29).

As with Soyuz 38 , no spaceship swap was carried out, and Janibekov and Gurragchaa returned to Earth with Soyuz 39.
