The ANGKASA ( malay Agensi Angkasa Negara ) is the Malaysian Space Agency in Banting . Founded in 2002, it is responsible for research and education in space and supports the Malaysian government in achieving its goals in space. The first and current director of ANGKASA is Mazlan Binti Othman , with Mustafa Din Subari as deputy.

Manned space program

As part of the consideration for the Malaysian government's purchase of 18 Sukhoi Su-30MKM fighter jets , Russia made it possible for a Malaysian spaceman ( Angkasawan ) to be flown into space in 2007. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor was selected as the first Malaysian astronaut on September 4, 2006. He flew to the International Space Station for eleven days in October 2007 .

In 2005, the Malaysian science and technology minister announced a plan for a Malaysian astronaut to land on the moon. It was hoped that this could take place in 2020 at the latest.
