Marcos Venâncio de Albuquerque (mostly Ceará , more rarely Marcos Ceará ; born June 16, 1980 in Crato , Ceará ) is a Brazilian football player .

Career

Career start at home

Marcos Venâncio de Albuquerque, who was born in the city of Crato in the state of Ceará and chose his stage name after his home state, began his active career as a football player at the local club Grêmio Esportivo Osasco in the Osasco state in São Paulo state . Before that, Ceará, who was born as the eighth and youngest child of his parents on a farm in Crato, had a hard time, which is why he and his family moved to Osasco at the age of ten. After a few years with the youngsters there, after a sighting in 1993 as a 13-year-old, he finally joined the top club São Paulos, FC Santos , where he was occasionally brought into the professional team. While he was training with the professional team in 1999 - nothing is known about any missions - Ceará was often brought to other clubs on loan. So in 1999 he switched to SE Gama on loan . Then he came from the year 2000 in the state championship of São Paulo at the AA Portuguesa Santista for use, which he left in the same year to switch to as a loan player to the São José EC . In 2001 he moved to Série A for Santa Cruz FC , for which he played 19 goalless championship games. In 2002 he finally had a brief appearance at Botafogo FR , where he was not able to convince and was given back in the current season. His next club was to be Coritiba FC that same year , with which he also celebrated his first notable successes. After only six goalless championship appearances in the 2002 season , he made 26 league appearances in the following year 2003 , in which he also scored one goal. In addition, he and his team were also national champions of Paraná that year .

Via São Caetano to SC Internacional

After these first major successes in club football, Ceará made it into the professional squad of AD São Caetano in 2004 . At the club from the city of São Caetano do Sul , he was able to build on his successes with Coritiba and won the state championship of São Paulo with the team at the end of the season . In Série A, the trained defender, who was already being used increasingly as a left but also as a right full-back, made another 26 appearances and one hit. In 2005, the then almost 25-year-old moved to the successful SC Internacional in Porto Alegre , with whom he also celebrated some of the greatest successes of his career to date. He made his debut on June 25, 2005 against the also very successful São Paulo FC , which was crowned FIFA Club World Champion that same year. By the end of the season Marcos Venâncio de Albuquerque came so in 13 league games for use, and also won the team Campeonato Gaúcho of the year 2005 . In addition, he was able to find himself with the team in Série A at the end of the season in second place in the table and was thus three points behind Corinthians São Paulo runner-up in the top Brazilian soccer league.

He celebrated his most successful season at the club in 2006, when he won several titles with the team and also acted as a regular in the defense line of Internacional. He was used 31 championship games and scored three goals. At the end of the season he reached second place with the team nine points behind São Paulo FC and was also in second place in the final classification of the São Paulo state championship. Nevertheless, the team around Ceará excelled in the Copa Libertadores , which could be won in the 2006 season for the first time in the club's history. Ceará, who mostly wore the shirt number 14 at Inter, was also used in the two finals against FC São Paulo. While he was substituted in the first leg in the 56th minute of the game and replaced by Wellington de Oliveira Monteiro , he played in the decisive second leg over the full game. During the entire competition, the 1.78 m tall defender was used in ten games in which he scored a goal. By winning the Copa Libertadores, the team was also involved in participating in the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan . As a member of CONMEBOL , the team and FC Barcelona ( UEFA ) were only allowed to enter the competition from the semi-finals. The team made it to the final with a 2-1 win over Al-Ahly Cairo , where they ultimately defeated FC Barcelona 1-0. In this encounter, Ceará was in action for the full duration of the game.

In 2007, however, the team could no longer follow on from the previous year's successes. The win in the Recopa Sudamericana remained the only title for the team this season. This year, the trained full-back was used in ten league games (+ 1 goal) before he moved to Europe shortly afterwards. He was able to look back on a decent record of four goals from 55 championship games, where he often stood out for his defensive actions and also attracted international clubs through his appearance in the Copa Libertadores and the Club World Cup. After he was already heavily courted during this time, but also had just extended his contract with Inter until 2011, the French first division club Paris Saint-Germain secured the talent of the Brazilian defender and signed him for a transfer fee of the rumored two to two and a half million euros. He signed a three-year contract with the French capital club.

Aspiring full-back at Paris Saint-Germain

Ceará as a
Paris Saint-Germain player (2010)

His league debut for Paris Saint-Germain was Marcos Venâncio de Albuquerque, who is also often called Marcos Ceará in France , on September 16, 2007 in a 2-1 away win over AS Monaco . He was substituted on in the 84th minute of the game for striker Amara Diané , but was a constant regular in the back of the Paris club for the rest of the season and was rarely substituted on or off. Already in his second championship appearance , a 1: 3 home defeat against Stade Rennes on October 6, 2007, he scored his first and only goal of the season in the 57th minute when he equalized 1: 1 after preparatory work by David N'Gog met. Until the end of the season, Ceará was involved with the team for a long time in the relegation battle, which they won shortly before the end of the season. The Brazilian defender was used in a total of 30 championship games and acted as one of the pillars of the team. Despite the predicament in the league, the two French cup competitions were tailor-made. In a total of five goalless appearances in the French league cup , he made it with the team to the final, where they finally defeated RC Lens 2-1. In the 2007/08 French Football Cup , the Parisians also made it to the cup final and were only eliminated there in extra time after a goal by Sidney Govou against Olympique Lyon .

Also in 2008/09 , Ceará brought his performances and was once again the driving force behind the back line of Paris Saint-Germain. He was used in almost every league game until the end of the season, but remained goalless this year, but made four assists twice as many as in the previous season. He also acted in the 2008/09 UEFA Cup , to which the Parisians belonged from the first round, as a guarantor with his assists. In a total of nine UEFA Cup appearances, which he completed before his team was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Dynamo Kiev , he put on three goals for his teammates. After the team experienced an upswing in the league, advancing up to sixth place in the table and barely missing Europa League qualifications or play-off starting positions, the team in the Coupe de France came to a quick end and also in the League Cup did not get past the semi-finals. After a season without a title, PSG only celebrated their next title in the 2009/10 season. Already in the summer, Ceará extended his contract, which expired in 2010, for another three years until the summer of 2012. The 2009/10 season he spent one more time as a supporter of PSG except for a few games in which he was absent due to injury. By the end of the season, he could look back on 29 league appearances and one assist. With the team, however, he slipped to 13th place in the table and was briefly represented in the relegation battle. Although the performance in the league, the team triumphed again in a cup competition. The Parisians won the French Football Cup 2009/10 and were involved in participating in the play-offs of the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League , where the team was ultimately represented for a long time. Further successes in 2010 were the finals in the French Supercup and the Paris tournament .

After an initially good phase, Ceará suffered a drop in performance in the 2010/11 season , which is due, among other things, to an injury that he suffered in the early stages of the still young season. After he always acted for the full length of the game at the beginning, he tried to find a regular member of the team again after his injury, which he sometimes succeeded in doing. But even after he found his way back into the team, he sometimes only made sporadic missions and was only used as a substitute player for a few minutes in February 2011. His last championship appearance to date (as of March 30, 2011) was on February 27, 2011 in a 2-1 home win over FC Toulouse . Previously, he broke his nose in November 2010 after an elbow bump in the face, which is why he had to undergo an operation and also subsequently missed a game of the current season. Ceará was increasingly used in the Europa League after he narrowly fixed participation with the team with a total score of 5: 4 against Maccabi Tel Aviv , and then established himself as one of the best teams in the group stage with the Parisians. Only in the round of 16 did they leave the current competition after a total score of 2: 3 against Benfica Lisbon .

Return to the Homeland

After five years in Paris, Ceará left the club. He returned to his homeland to the Cruzeiro Esporte Clube from Belo Horizonte . From 2012 to 2015 he played 125 games in various competitions and won the Brazilian championship in 2013 and 2014.

At the beginning of 2016, Ceará switched to league rivals Coritiba FC. In the same year he switched again to SC Internacional . In August 2017 Ceará went to América Mineiro , a league competitors in the Série B . The contract was given a term until the end of the season.
