François Clerc (born April 18, 1983 in Bourg-en-Bresse ) is a French football player .

Career

societies

François Clerc began his career at Olympique Lyon, where he already played in the youth team. At first he was only in the reserve team. At the beginning of the 2004/05 season Clerc was loaned to Toulouse FC , as he could hardly hope for first division appearances in Lyon . He played his first league game on August 14, 2004 in front of his own audience against Racing Strasbourg . But even in Toulouse he only came to seven missions and moved back to Lyon after a year. There he was behind Anthony Réveillère and Lamine Diatta only third choice in the position of right-back . But when both were absent due to injuries or because of the national team, Clerc came to several missions and was even able to fight for a regular place.

His contract with Olympique Lyon ran until the end of June 2010 and was not renewed. He then hired at OGC Nice , which he left after two years in the summer of 2012 and moved to AS Saint-Étienne . There he signed a three-year contract. On April 20, 2013, he won the League Cup with his new club . It was his first triumph in this competition. Clerc was a regular in his first season at Saint-Étienne and reached 5th place in Ligue 1.

National team

Clerc made his first major international appearance in 2006 at the U-21 European Championship in Portugal , where he failed with France in the semi-finals against the Netherlands . The defender was deployed twice.

Clerc made his debut for the senior team on 11 October 2006 against the Faroe Islands . At the European Championship finals in 2008 he was part of the French squad , but was not used.
