The Stade Marcel-Tribut is a football stadium in the French port city of Dunkerque ( German  Dunkirk ), Département Nord in the Hauts-de-France region at the northern tip of the country. The football club USL Dunkerque has its sporting home here.

history

The stadium, which opened in 1933, was destroyed in World War II. From 1957 to 1967 it was completely rebuilt with 12,000 seats. Today, for safety reasons, it only offers 4,200 seats (1,500 seats). The sports facility has two stands along the square. The first spectator rank was established in 1957/58; the second grandstand in the 1960s. Next to the arena is the Jean Rouvroy artificial turf, which opened in 2004 ; named after the former president (1954–1996) of the association. The facility is located in a sports park with the Dewerdt sports hall , where the club's handball team plays. There is also another sports hall, a fitness studio and tennis courts .

In January 2017, plans for a stadium renovation were published. On January 15, 2018, the renovation work to modernize the stadium began. At the beginning of February of that year the south stand was dismantled. The former standing grandstand in the west will make way for a new stadium entrance and an administration building. So that the fans of the USL Dunkerque can continue to support their team, the north stand will only be demolished after the south stand has been completed. This should be the case in August 2019. The new tier in the north is to offer 2,380 seats and also 50 disabled-friendly places. The cost of the renovation is estimated at 14 million euros . After the renovation, the Stade Marcel tribute will offer around 5,000 covered spaces.
