Moncef Zerka , more rarely Monsef Zerka , ( Arabic منصف زرقا, DMG Munṣif Zarqā ; * August 30, 1981 in Orléans ) is a former French - Moroccan football player who was also active for the Moroccan national team . He played a total of 164 games in the French Ligue 1 , the Greek Super League , the North American Major League Soccer , the Romanian League 1 and the Singapore S. League .
Career
Zerka played in the youth of US Orléans and was recommended by his coach Jacques Le Quéré at Nancy. He completed a trial training at the age of 15 and was finally accepted into the club at 17. He made his Ligue 2 debut in 2001 and subsequently became a versatile player. In addition to tasks in the defensive and central midfield, he can also be used in more offensive positions. In 2005 he rose to Ligue 1 with the club .
In 2006 he scored the 1-0 opening goal against OGC Nice in the final of the League Cup (final score 2-1). On January 6, 2007, he broke his shin and fibula in a duel with Seydou Keita and fell out for the second half of the 2006/07 season. It wasn't until December 2007 that he celebrated his league comeback. For the 2009/10 season he moved to Ligue 2 for FC Nantes .
In January 2011 he moved to Iraklis Thessaloniki in Greece . In mid-2011 he joined the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer . There he finished the 2011 season with his team in last place in the Eastern Conference. In early 2012, Petrolul Ploieşti brought him to the Romanian League 1 . In the summer of 2012, his contract was not renewed and Zerka was six months without engagement before Tanjong Pagar United brought him to Singapore in early 2013 . He ended his career there at the end of 2014.
National team
In 2004 Zerka was part of the Morocco Olympic team for the Olympic football tournament in Greece. He came out on two occasions in the preliminary round. At the end of 2007 he was appointed to the Morocco squad for the 2008 African Cup of Nations. In the first group game he scored the goal as a substitute against Namibia to make it 5-1.

Based on the fictional character Zorro , he draws a "Z" in the air to celebrate the goal.
