Raymond Kaelbel

Raymond Kaelbel (born January 31, 1932 in Colmar / Haut-Rhin , † April 17, 2007 in Strasbourg ) was a French football player .

The club career

Raymond Kaelbel first played in his hometown for SR Colmar and, at the age of 18, moved to Division 1 for the Alsatian "flagship" Racing Strasbourg . In his first year there (1950/51), the team won the French Cup , but the right full-back was slowly introduced to the league eleven by his coach and was also not placed in the cup final. A year later he rose with Strasbourg in the second division and in 1953 immediately back on. But it wasn't enough to get more than midfield in the top division. Personally, however, things went much better for Kaelbel: in 1954 he became a national player .

In 1956 he left Strasbourg to play at AS Monaco at a higher level. He actually succeeded in doing this after several unsuccessful attempts by the Monegas in 1960 (in the cup) and 1961 (in the championship ). In the years on the Côte d'Azur , Kaelbel was moved from the defender to the center runner position , but before 1960 only in the club - in the national team, however, Robert Jonquet was set in this position , his club Stade Reims in the league mostly before Monaco was placed.

The cup win, to which Raymond Kaelbel had also actively contributed to the final this time, was followed by two club changes (1961 to Le Havre AC , 1962 to Stade de Reims, which had just won its sixth league title), both of which ended anything but successful: 1962 rose Le Havre, 1964 Reims from the first division. Then Kaelbel returned to Strasbourg at the age of 32 , played there for five years and won the Coupe de France again in 1966 (incidentally positioned as the left runner in the final ).

A particular specialty Kaelbels were his huge throw-ins , which he could easily significantly to address more than 30 yards on a team-mate.
