Zoran Vujović (born August 26, 1958 in Sarajevo ) is a former Yugoslav soccer player who was champion and cup winner with three different clubs in two countries.

career

Club stations

Zoran Vujović began his career in 1976 with his twin brother Zlatko at Hajduk Split , where the two brothers played for ten years before moving to Girondins Bordeaux together in 1986 . They were under contract with the French first division team for two years (Zoran stayed a year longer) and then met again at their last station, which they spent together at the second division OGC Nice in the 1992/93 season . They helped him to return to the top division when they said goodbye to professional football .

1979 Vujović brothers jointly won with Hajduk Split, the Yugoslav football championship and in the years 1977 and 1984 the cup competition .

In their first season together in France 1986/87, they won the double , the French football championship and the cup competition with Girondins Bordeaux .

In 1989 Zoran Vujović returned to Yugoslavia for one season , where he won another double with Red Star Belgrade in 1989/90 .

He then spent his last 3 years as a professional footballer in France, where he spent one season each at Stade Vallauris (1990/91), AS Cannes (1991/92) and most recently - again with his twin brother - at OGC Nice (1992/93 ) spent.

National team

Together with his brother Zlatko took Zoran Vujović 1980 at the Olympic football tournament in part and came in 5 out of 6 games used that the Yugoslav selection in Moscow denied.

He had made his debut for the Yugoslav national team in a friendly match against Italy held in Zagreb on June 13, 1979 , which was won 4-1. In a total of 8 Yugoslavia qualifying matches for the 1982 World Cup , Vujović was used five times. In one of these games (on September 27, 1980 in a 2-1 win against Denmark ) he scored his first international goal, which was followed more than four years later on February 1, 1985 by a goal for a 3-1 win against South Korea . At the 1982 World Cup, Zoran Vujović was part of the Yugoslav World Cup squad , but was - unlike his brother - not used. Zoran Vujović also played several qualifying matches for the 1986 and 1990 World Championships and for the 1984 and 1988 European Championships , but never took part in a major tournament again after 1982: in 1984 and 1990 he was not called up and Yugoslavia was able to play for the 1986 and 1988 tournaments do not qualify.

Anecdotes

In the first round of the 1981/82 UEFA Cup , Hajduk Split faced VfB Stuttgart , who were defeated 3-1 and 2-2. The two twin brothers played a big part in the progress of their team because they scored all the goals for the 3-1 first leg win in the Poljud stadium at home and thus laid the basis for progress: Zoran scored the opening goal at the 1-0 break in the 41st minute , which his brother followed up with the 2-1 and 3-1 goals in the 65th and 81st minutes.

In the 1986/87 European Cup Winners' Cup , the two brothers advanced with Girondins Bordeaux to the semi-finals, where on April 22, 1987, against Lok Leipzig, a penalty shoot-out was required to determine the finalist. When Zlatko Vujović, who was supposed to be the shooter, fluttered his nerves and brother Zoran stepped in for him, he was unable to get his shot, which was much too weak and unplaced, into the goal.
